Transforming a health insurer into a human-centred healthcare proposition
“What should customers expect from a modern healthcare partner?”
Following the acquisition of Delta Lloyd, we developed the complete NN Zorg proposition — from a single human promise through to products, services, customer journey and campaigns.

Proposition pillars
Following the acquisition of Delta Lloyd, Nationale-Nederlanden faced the challenge of introducing NN Zorg as a future-proof healthcare brand.
The objective was far more ambitious than integrating two portfolios. NN wanted to create a distinctive healthcare proposition that aligned with its broader brand positioning, strengthened customer retention, supported future growth and minimized overlap with other brands within the portfolio.
The challenge was not simply to launch another health insurance product.
It was to redefine what customers should expect from a modern healthcare partner.
TrendsActive approached the challenge from an outside-in perspective.
Rather than starting with insurance products, we explored the changing needs, expectations and behaviours of people in relation to health, wellbeing and everyday life.
Those human insights became the foundation for a completely new proposition that translated one central promise into every layer of the organisation.
The project included:
- Human needs and sociocultural analysis
- Strategic positioning
- Development of the complete NN Zorg proposition
- Product and service directions
- Customer experience principles
- Communication strategy
- Implementation roadmap
The result was a proposition that connected strategy with execution—from customer promise to organisational delivery.
The project fundamentally changed the role of health insurance.
Instead of competing on premiums, reimbursements and policies, NN Zorg was repositioned around one human promise: helping people focus on what truly matters by taking away their healthcare worries.
That promise became the strategic foundation for every customer interaction.
It was translated into four proposition pillars that guided how NN Zorg should develop products, services, customer experience and communication—creating one coherent system instead of isolated initiatives.
Rather than asking “Which insurance products should we sell?” the organisation started asking “How can we remove worries so people can focus on what matters most?”
The proposition became the strategic foundation for the new NN Zorg brand and remains the guiding framework today.
Following its development, TrendsActive helped create the implementation roadmap that translated the proposition into concrete actions across products, services and customer experience. We also supported the redesign of the customer journey, ensuring the new promise was reflected throughout the entire customer experience.
Beyond the proposition itself, the framework became the common language for multiple disciplines across the organisation. Product development, proposition management, marketing, communication and internal teams all used the same strategic principles to guide decisions.
To ensure consistency from strategy to execution, TrendsActive also led the strategic translation into creative implementation—working alongside the creative agency to guide the development of campaigns, commercials, the new website and other communication assets. The result was one coherent brand experience, built from a single human promise rather than disconnected marketing initiatives.
Strong propositions do more than differentiate a brand.
They align an organisation.
When a human promise becomes the common thread across products, customer experience, communication and internal decision-making, strategy stops being a presentation and starts becoming an operating system.
That is where long-term relevance is created.
